Lasiliiri Oy, in cooperation with Teräselementti Oy, delivered the glass structures to the new terminal

The glass façade of the south wing gives passengers an experience of space and openness. Large glass surfaces also provide a lot of natural light, which is good for public spaces. The design takes into account the properties of the glass, ie it protects against excessive heat loads and overheating, on the one hand, it keeps cold air outside and insulates sound. In addition, the appearance and cost of the glass have been taken into account in the design. Lasiliiri Oy, in cooperation with Teräselementti Oy, has responded to these challenges and requirements.

In the first phase of the construction of the south wing, Lasiliiri Oy delivered facade safety glass to the site that meets modern safety requirements. All glass surfaces in the project have been delivered according to the planned schedule.

In the second phase of the project, Lasiliiri Oy was involved in delivering safety glass elements inside the terminal.

The challenge in the project has been the large size of the glass surfaces and the shape cutting of the glasses. Lasiliiri Oy’s new investment in the lamination line enabled the production of these large, cut-to-shape, laminated glasses in Lasiliiri Oy’s own premises. Laminated insulating / safety glass meets the modern requirements for sun protection and heat load, safety and sound insulation. The total glass surface delivered is approximately 25,000 m2.

The glass on the façade and inside is laminated with EVALAM film, which is better than the previous PVB lamination film at all values. EVALAM is EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) with excellent light transmission and brightness, high adhesion, good sound insulation and a unique glass-reinforcing molecular crosslinking structure. A crosslink is a bond between two or more molecules that forms the strength and durability of laminated glass. Thanks to its strong cross-linking of more than 87%, EVALAM is significantly better in strength and durability than any thermoplastic, such as PVB. All of these together create the best material for use in solutions that require optical properties and durability.

Architect Tuomas Silvennoinen from PES-Arkkitehdit Oy, who planned the expansion of the airport, won the Glass Builder of the Year 2019 award.
