European glass suppliers introduced energy surcharge

The price of natural gas determines the energy surcharge

The downstream processing of glass involves an energy surcharge that is determined on a monthly basis. Due to an international emergency, the energy surcharge was introduced in April 2022. As a result of rising energy costs, glass suppliers in Europe have introduced an energy surcharge mechanism. The energy surcharge is a temporary measure when the average price of natural gas is above €80/MWh/month.

For example, the average price of the TTF index for natural gas in August 2022 was €227/MWh.

The energy surcharge for October 2022 deliveries is 0,46€/kg. The next review of the energy levy will take place in the last week of October. The energy surcharge is adjusted each month to reflect the average price of the previous month.
